More details from petition creator

On 15 July 2015, Donnelly launched the Social Democrats party along with former Labour Party TD Róisín Shortall and former independent TD Catherine Murphy. During the 2016 General Election, Donnelly received 20.9% of the vote which accumulated to 14,348 votes in the Wicklow Constituency. Donnelly left the Social Democrats on the 5th of September 2016, citing difficulty working with his two co-leaders. In February 2017, Donnelly announced that he will be joining the Fianna Fáil party.14,348 people during the General Election voted for a Social Democrat Candidate, not an Independent, and certainly not a Fianna Fáil Candidate. This petition gives a voice to those 14,348 voters and urges Donnelly to step down so a By-Election may take place. Of course Mr. Donnelly has the right to run in that By-Election as a Fianna Fáil Candidate but, without question, he must resign to allow the Wicklow people to vote for a representative/political party of their choice. It is fair and just for the Wicklow People to have the right to vote again in a By-Election due to Donnelly’s new allegiance to a political party that he was not representing during the General Election.
