Article 44.2.2 of the Irish constitution prevents the state from endowing any religion. Whether or not that is the case, requiring prayer before is an archaic and oppressive step that enshrines a religion in the state, a religion that has preyed on children and women in their supposed care, a religion that owes the state millions in damages for those abuses and a religion that consistently attempts to undermine the sovereignty of the nation. This rule must be abolished.
